Shoutouts are what make Nectar so sweet! They’re a fun and meaningful way to recognize your teammates and celebrate company values. Each shoutout appears on your company’s homepage and includes a sender, a recipient, and a Core Value.

What are the requirements to send a shoutout?

To send a shoutout, you must:

  • Tag at least one person

  • Include at least one Core Value

Points are optional, but encouraged! Your monthly giveable points expire at the end of each month, so be sure to give as much as you can! When you include points in a shoutout, each tagged recipient receives the full amount specified (not divided among recipients).

How do I create a shoutout?

You can write a shoutout manually using:

  • @username to mention the recipient

  • #CoreValue to tag a value

  • +points to award points (e.g., "+5" gives 5 points to each recipient)

Or, you can use the buttons in the Shoutout box:

  • Select recipients from the People list

  • Choose one or more Core Values with the Values button

  • Add points (optional, e.g., "+5" to give 5 points to the recipient)

Enhance your shoutout with emojis, badges, images, or GIFs too

Sending a shoutout to multiple people at once

For awarding points to multiple people at once:

  • Tag multiple recipients using their usernames or @everyone (if available)

  • Include the point value in your message (e.g., "+5")

  • Each tagged recipient will receive the full amount specified

    • For example, if you assign +1 point and tag 4 individuals, 4 points will be deducted from your balance (1 point per tagged individual).

The visibility of point values in shoutouts depends on your organization's settings and can be configured by administrators.

Tip: Use the checkboxes at the bottom of the shoutout composer to review what you’ve included before posting.

What can I do after posting a shoutout?

For Users and Managers

You can:

  • Comment on your own shoutouts or others' (points added in comments count toward the total for the original recipient)

  • Edit the text of your shoutout

    • Only message content can be edited—recipient names, Core Values, and points cannot be changed

  • Delete your own shoutout

    • Click the three dots (•••) in the upper-right corner of the shoutout and choose Delete Shoutout

You can also report a shoutout if it contains inappropriate content. This alerts your administrator to review the post.

For Administrators

Admins can do everything regular users can, plus:

  • Delete any shoutout

  • Hide a shoutout from appearing on the leaderboard

Understanding Shoutout Privacy in Nectar

Nectar allows admins and managers to control the visibility of specific shoutouts through privacy settings. Private shoutouts provide a way to give recognition that is only visible to select individuals.

What Are Private Shoutouts?

Private shoutouts in Nectar are special acknowledgments that are visible only to a select group of users. They are managed differently than public shoutouts to maintain controlled visibility within the organization.

Who Can Send Private Shoutouts?

Private shoutouts or points can only be sent by users with admin or managerial roles. Regular users do not have the ability to send private shoutouts or points in Nectar. If you lack these permissions, you will not see the option to send a private shoutout or make your point distribution private.

Who Can View Private Shoutouts?

Visibility for private shoutouts in Nectar is limited to:

  • The employee who sends the shoutout

  • The employee who receives the shoutout

  • Any administrators (managers do not have visibility unless directly involved in the shoutout)

Managing Private-to-Public Status Changes

Once a shoutout is marked as private, its status cannot be directly changed to public by the recipient. However, admins or managers who wish to convert a private shoutout into a public one can follow this workaround:

  1. Delete the existing private shoutout: This action reverses the points sent while removing the private record.

  2. Resend the shoutout as public: All reversed points from the deleted shoutout can be reused for the new public shoutout.

Recipients of private shoutouts do not have the ability to alter their visibility. Only senders control the privacy settings.
