How do I set monthly point allowances for users and managers?
Admins can customize how many Points to Give users receive each month. These are known as monthly allowances and are used to send shoutouts across your team.
Nectar supports two types of allowances:
Peer-to-Peer Allowance – for regular users
Manager Allowance – for managers to recognize their direct reports
You can set these at a flat rate for all users or apply variable rate rules to customize based on user attributes like department or location. In some cases, managers may have unique allocation rules, such as quarterly resets instead of monthly ones. Their allowances might include a baseline amount plus additional points for each direct report, aligning with company-specific goals.
Note: Managers will receive a Manager Allowance only. They do not receive a Peer-to-Peer Allowance and the Manager allowance. Managers' allowances might include a baseline amount plus additional points depending on the number of their direct reports.
If you'd like to set up an allowance schedule other than monthly please contact your Nectar Account Manager.
How to Access Monthly Allowance Settings
Go to Admin Panel > Workspace Settings > General Settings > Allowances & Values
Click Edit Monthly Allowance
You’ll see configuration options for both Peer-to-Peer and Manager point allowances
Flat Rate vs Variable Rate Allowances
Flat Rate Allowance
All users in the group (Peer-to-Peer or Manager) receive the same number of points each month
Best for simple, uniform point distributions
Variable Rate Allowance
Points are assigned based on rules you define (e.g., by Department, Office Location, etc.)
Allows for more flexible and targeted budgets
Note: Managers will receive a Manager Allowance only, which may include a baseline amount and extra points based on the number of their direct reports. They do not receive a Peer-to-Peer Allowance.

Timing of Allocation
Monthly Resets: Typically, points are reset at the beginning of each month.
Mid-month updates: If you make changes to the Allowances page during the month they will apply on the 1st of the next reset month. See the point allowances page for your next scheduled point reset date.
Pre-launch updates apply immediately for users once they sign into Nectar for the first time. If your team runs out of points before the reset period, you may have the option to convert redeemable points into distributable points. This process, known as "boosting points," is irreversible and should be considered carefully.
