How do I send a shoutout in Slack?

Learn how to send a shoutout to Nectar in Slack

1. Make sure the Slack integration is set up

  • Your administrator must install the Nectar Slack integration first.

  • During setup, they’ll choose a Slack channel where shoutouts will be posted.

2. Use the /give or /Nectar command to send a shoutout

  • In the connected Slack channel, type the /give or /nectar command and hit send:

  • A pop up will appear with a form where you can input the

    • Teammate you want to recognize

    • Number of points you want to give them

    • The message you want to include

    • and the core value they embody for your shoutout

  • Once all fields are filled out, click Send Shoutout and it will post to Slack and Nectar!

Convert a message in Slack to a Shoutout

You can also convert any message you send in Slack into a Shoutout. To do this:

  • Go to the message you want to convert and click the three dots for More Actions.

  • Click More Message Shortcuts and search Nectar and click the option Send as a Shoutout.

    • Once you do this, it should show up in your top shortcuts when clicking the More Actions button.

  • Then you'll be able to fill out the form with the needed information:

    • Teammate you want to recognize

    • Number of points you want to give them

    • The message you want to include (this will auto populate from your slack message)

    • and the core value they embody for your shoutout

  • Once all fields are filled out, click Send Shoutout and it will post to Slack and Nectar!
