What is a Challenge in Nectar and how do I create one?
Nectar’s Challenge feature lets users proactively earn points by completing tasks, goals, or company initiatives. Challenges are created by Admins, and users must submit a claim to receive points—either automatically or after admin approval, depending on the setup.

How to Create a Challenge
You can create a challenge by navigating to Manage Awards > Challenges > Manage Challenges> Click Create Challenge.
You will be asked to complete the following information:
1. Provide Basic Information
These settings determine what users see on the Challenges page:
Challenge Name
Description
Point Amount: Number of points awarded per claim
Include Points on Leaderboard: Choose whether points should count toward leaderboard rankings
Challenge Image
Optional Link Display Text + URL
Inside the Basic Information section, if you click "show advanced options" it will open additional customization options where you are able to edit the claim and button text.
Note: this feature is not available on all accounts as it is an add-on feature
2. Set Who Can Claim the challenge:
This setting is to define who can view and submit claims for this challenge.
Private toggle: When this challenge is claimed and approved, it will not be visible on the feed to users without additional permissions, and will appear labeled “Private” to Admins and Managers.
Select Users: Select the users that can claim this challenge.
All Users: It will be available to everyone in your account.
Custom Rules: You will be able to set up rules for who can view the Challenge by Office Location, Department or other Custom Properties.
3. Set the Claim Frequency & Expiration dates :
This setting is to define how often a claim can be submitted, and if the challenge expires.
Maximum Workspace Claim Quantity: Specify how many total times this challenge can be claimed in this workspace.
Unlimited Claims or
Limited Claims: # of claims available in total for the whole workspace.
Maximum Individual Claim Quantity: Specify how many times this challenge can be claimed by a single user in this workspace.
Unlimited Claims or
Limited Claims: # of claims available for an individual user.
Reset Period: Select how often quantity limits reset.
Expiration Date: Select whether this challenge will expire or if it will always be available for users to claim.
4. Claim Approvals:
This setting is to set who can approve claim submissions and what’s required for approval.
Require Claim Proof: Users will be required to submit an explanation and image with their challenge claim. An admin must approve the claim before the user receives their points.
Claim Approval Permissions: Select whether this challenge will be automatically or manually approved.
Auto Approve Challenge Claims: The points will be given to the user automatically without any review period. Admins will also not receive notifications.
Manually Approve Challenge Claims: Add certain users that can approve the challenges. You can search for individuals or click Add All Admins to add the full Admin list as approvers.
Notification Preferences: Admins can customize their notification preferences to ensure they are aware of pending claims. If notifications are ignored, users may not receive timely updates on the status of their claims.
❗ All users added as approvers will be notified each time a claim is submitted for this challenge.
Feed Post Appearance:
Set challenge as active when you’re ready for relevant users to be notified after saving changes.
Post User Claim Submission Photo to Home Feed: User’s submitted photo will be posted to the Home Feed instead of the default challenge image.
❗ Require Claim Proof must be toggled on for this option to be enabled
❗ If Auto Approve Challenge Claims is on, user’s submitted photo will automatically be posted to the Home Feed without admin review.
Home Feed Post Message: This message will post to the home feed when user claims are approved.
Challenge Activation:
Set challenge as active when you’re ready for relevant users to be notified after saving changes.
Activate Challenge toggle: Active challenges will appear on the Challenges page. When a challenge is set to active, relevant users will be notified depending on their individual notification preference set.
Manage Challenge Settings
On the Manage Challenge tab, there are a couple of different functions you can do.
Organize
The Organize button allows you to drag and drop the order of the Challenges and how they will show on the user's side.
Search & Filter
You can manually search for specific challenges or filter by:
Status: Active or Inactive
or Pending Claims: If the challenge has pending claims or not
Bulk Actions
On the Challenges you can also update in Bulk.
First, select the challenges you can to edit by clicking the checkbox on the left side.
Second, you will click the Bulk Actions button in the top right and select what action you want to take. The available ones are:
Update Departments
Update Office Locations
Updated Approval Details
Update Quantity Limits
Update Proof Requirements
Update Point Amount
Activate Selected
Deactivate Selected
Delete Selected
Click on the bulk action you are wanting to take and follow the prompts provided to update.
Challenge Claims
When you go to Manage Awards > Challenges. You will see the Challenge Claims section.
This shows you all Pending, Approved and Denied Challenge Claims.
You'll use the tabs to switch between which list you want to look at for current or past claims
You can also filter all claims by a Date Range by clicking on the Filters button and inputing the date range you are looking for.
These lists can also be downloaded by clicking on the Download button to the right on this page.
