What is the Automated Work Anniversary Award?

The Work Anniversary Award is a customizable Automated Award that recognizes and celebrates each employee’s work anniversary—automatically!

How does the Work Anniversary Award work?

On a user’s hire date anniversary, Nectar will:

  • Post an anniversary shoutout to the social feed

  • Include a bonus point award from the company

  • Allow teammates to add to the shoutout and celebrate together

Anniversary Award points are funded by the company, not deducted from individual user balances.

How do I configure the Work Anniversary Award?

The Anniversary Award is pre-installed in all accounts and comes with a default message and award amount. You can customize both and add an image if you'd like.

Before you customize the Anniversary Award, make sure each user’s hire date is entered correctly in their profile.

To update the message or award amount:

  1. Go to Workspace Settings.

  2. Click Awards from the left sidebar.

  3. Find the Work Anniversary Award in the list on the Automated tab.

  4. Click the pencil icon on the right to edit.

A pop-up window will appear where you can:

  • Edit the message

  • Adjust the award amount

  • Choose whether the message should be publicly visible

Note: Your anniversary message must include these keywords:

  • @receiver_username – for the system to automatically tag the user

  • +amount – to show the awarded points

  • [num_years] – to show the number of years (automatically shows “year” instead of "years" for first anniversary)

Example outputs:

  • 10 years:
    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, @johndoe!! It's been a great 10 years with you at Nectar +100

  • 1 year:
    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, @johndoe!! It's been a great year with you at Nectar +100

Once you’ve made your changes, click Save.

Can I award different point amounts for milestone years?

Yes! To set milestone-based awards:

  1. Navigate back to configuring your Anniversary Award. (See above).

  2. Click Advanced Settings to reveal the milestone year customization options.

  3. Set custom Award Amounts for each milestone year you'd like.

  4. Click +Add Another until you have all your milestone years and their respective Award Amounts added.

Any year not listed in the Advanced Settings will default to the Award Amount listed above the Advanced Settings.

For example, in the below image points would be award as:
Years 1-4 = 20 points

Year 5 = 500 points

Years 6-9 = 20 points

Year 10 = 10,000 points

Years 11 and on = 20 points

If you only want to give awards for certain years (e.g., 1, 3, 5 years), set the default Award Amount to 0. The award will still post each year, but only specified milestones will include points.

How do I turn the Work Anniversary Award on or off?

  • To disable or re-enable the Anniversary Award:

    1. Go to Workspace Settings.

    2. Click Awards from the left sidebar.

    3. Find the Work Anniversary Award in the list on the Automated tab.

    4. Toggle the switch to the left of the Award title:

      • Green = ON

      • Gray = OFF

The Anniversary Award is ON by default.

How do I add hire dates?

You can add hire dates using one of the following methods:

1. HRIS Integration (automatic)

  • If your account is connected to an HRIS, hire dates will sync automatically.

2. CSV Bulk Upload

  • Include it in a CSV file and use our bulk upload feature.

  • Hire dates should be formatted like: DD-Mon-YYYY (e.g., 8-Jun-2024)

  • Do not include leading zeros (e.g., use 8-Jun-2024, not 08-Jun-2024)

3. Manually in User Profile

  • Go to the Users tab

  • Click the user’s name

  • Scroll to the Hire Date field

  • Select the date and click Save Changes

Reminder: Only users with a valid hire date in their profile will receive the automated award.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time do anniversary awards get sent?

  • Around 3:00 am MST on the anniversary date.

Why wasn’t an anniversary shoutout sent?

Check for the following:

  • The Work Anniversary Award is turned off.

  • The hire date is missing, formatted incorrectly, or entered on the wrong date field.

  • The hire date information was added or changed after the automation was triggered that day.

Can missed shoutouts be re-triggered?

Yes! Contact the Nectar Support Team and they can help resend the award.

Can the anniversary award be made private?

Yes. You can choose to make all anniversary shoutouts private during configuration or you can make individual user's anniversary shoutout private from their profile.

Individuals can also make their anniversary shoutout private from their own profile page.

Can I turn off the anniversary award for specific individuals?

Yes. No hire date in the profile = no automation.

  • If you have an HRIS Integration, this option does not work and there will be no way to disable the anniversary shoutout for users.
